Our Approach

Wroughton Junior Academy and SEND

Our qualified and experienced lead for SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) is Mrs Louise Utting – our Assistant Headteacher and SENCO.

Our SEND information report contains further specifics regarding SEND at Wroughton.

At Wroughton Academies we are driven to ensure all children achieve excellence through hard-work, courage and academic performance.  Whilst we place incredibly high expectations on all children, we also recognise that some children with and without SEND will require different support, intervention and strategies to achieve national expectations. Those children with a learning difficulty that requires special educational provision will be identified as having SEND.  A child or young person may have a special educational need at any time in their school life.

We have an aspirational and inclusive culture in our academy and work hard to be more responsive to the diversity of children’s backgrounds, interests, experiences, knowledge and skills. We aim to create a learning environment which is supportive enough to meet the needs of all members of our school community, but still aspirational enough to set national achievements and higher for all children.   We monitor progress of all learners, and staff continually assess pupils, ensuring learning is taking place and intervene where necessary.

Through gathering the views of parents, children and staff, we swiftly employ the specialist support, intervention and expertise of other professionals such as educational psychologists, autism specialists, speech and language therapists, play therapists and many more.
